Fascinating discussion. Range matters. Surprise matters even more. Combine the two and it can be devastating.
Your discussion reminds me of an observation I have: technology/methodology always precedes tactics. Case in point, with aircraft carriers. Even up to Pearl Harbor these were not considered offensive weapons. But the British figured this out before Pearl with its devastating attack on the Italian fleet at Taranto in 1940, and those were with Swordfish biplanes!
But here is this thing with air power and range…the pace and continuation is what really matters. Wars or battles are almost never as quick and short as we would hope. The “one and done” operation in Iran needed follow up to ensure the job was done. This did not happen and now it is not clear how strategically successful this was.
I have heard discussion about the F-35 and the B-2 having enough of an IR exhaust plume that they can likely be detected from LEO. What are your thoughts on this?
I’d be most interested. If that is true it affects my analysis. So I’d love to get the info and check it out. I’d also like to understand the science of it. I get a lot of Defense newsletters as well like Breaking Defense. I might subscribe to something that ahead of the game.
As usual, great insight with history proving your points. Although the Iranian program was not obliterated, using these planes made a point with our other enemies. Trump and Hegsted, however, are the two worst people on the planet and the fate of our professional military is on shaky ground.
Fascinating, perspective, you supply it. Like the history as my father flew F4s from Yorktown at Coral Sea and Midway. Questions: Will B21 make ICBM use more likely since no conventional option? Chins must counter, will electronic warfare, AI be how?
"Good" thing trump defunded and fired US research ... NOT!
Opps! Yep it’s one of those devilish typos! Good thing the actual subscription button shows monthly .

Who pray tell told you Low Earth Orbit satellites could detect stealth aircraft whose engines are constructed to avoid detectable emissions?
I believe it was in one of the daily defense newsletters I get like Task and Purpose, The War Zone, etc. I'll look for it later this morning.

Absolutely riveting and exciting history! Keep doing what you are doing.
Great commentary! Thanks

Use of Nuclear weapons by anyone, nation state or terrorist, is suicidal. China’s leaders are most definitely not suicidal.
With respect, Professor, I think you may have meant to show the $7.50 price as monthly, not yearly.
